What is an Actifirm Z Peel?
Actifirm, the leader in breakthrough enzyme skin care
technology, introduces Z Peel, a self monitoring "smart
peel" that not only selectively targets damaged skin cell, but
also neutralizes itself automatically. This revolutionary technology
dramatically diminishes the redness, flaking and photosensitivity
that follow other traditional peels.

produces luminously hydrated, firmer-looking skin comparable to the
results from a harsher alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA), or beta hydroxy (BHA)

How the Z Peel Works
The Z Peel is a unique mushroom based peel, derived specifically
from the mucor miehei mushroom from Japan and is not an alpha or
beta hydroxy acid. The Z Peel is an acid protease that exfoliates by
working with the skin's pH. Proteases work by breaking long chains
of proteins into smaller chains. The Z Peel is applied to the skin
in a formula which contains an acidic buffering agent at a pH of
less than 4.0, which activates the enzyme and exfoliation
begins.
Over a period of time, the skin neutralizes the acidic buffering
agent and the pH of the skin returns to normal. At this point the
peel shuts itself off. Dead skin cells that are ready to exfoliate
are normally exfoliated by the skin with its own enzyme called
Cathepsin D. The enzyme breaks down or digests the "links"
(desmosomes) that hold the top dead layers of skin cells together at
specific sites yielding younger, healthier skin. The Z Peel mimics
the natural exfoliation process used by the skin.
